WHAT IS SPEAKING?
Speaking is a productive skill based on the use of speech to communicate ideas to other people. When we speak we do not use the language accurately. It is more complicated if we speak a second language. For helping students to develop their speaking, teachers can teach sub- skills such as: making use of grammar, vocabulary, functions and register; using connected speech, body language, oral fluency and so on. We speak to communicate meaning and to reach it; for this the speaker uses gestures, facial expressions to clarify it. For a successful oral communication in mother tongue or target language is indispensable: fluency, accuracy and appropriacy in the speech.
Teachers should make students practice in specific areas of speaking like fluency, pronunciation, intonation and so on. There are a variety of controlled practice activities that I would apply to help students to speak accurately, such as: drills, repetition, things learn by heart and so on. Additionally, fluency activities, like discussions, information gap activities and project works are useful for training students. Keep in mind that is more important the Student Talking Time (STT) that the Teacher Talking Time (TTT) because the most students practice the language, the better speakers they will be. "According to Nunan (1991), a success in language
learning is measured in terms of the ability to carry out a conversation in the (target) language. Hence, if
the language learners fail to learn how to speak or do not get any opportunity to speak in the language
classroom, they may soon get de-motivated and lose interest in learning the language" (Bahrani, T., & Soltani, R. 2012).

I agree with you, it is useful that students develop different activities such as debates, coversations, etc. according to real situations, because while they are practicing and using the langauge, they can improve even increase their confidence at the moment to communicate with other effectively.
ResponderEliminarI also agree with you girls and in addition i think it could be a good idea if teachers let students to choose the topics the want to talk about, becuase then it will be easier for them to speak.
